Design approach
Series system
Red Tree was designed as the first volume of a series, so the cover had to work as a system rather than a one-off image. The frame is fixed: the author’s name at the top, title and series line at the base, and a central figure lit against black with red fabric carrying the movement.
Spines
That fixed structure is what lets later volumes change the photograph without losing the identity. The spine carries a volume number so the books line up on a shelf and read as a set.
